Vacation Thoughts

Well it is almost that time of the year...we have two weeks of vacation to take before May.  My husband has two weeks of vacation that he has to use up before May with his work and I need to schedule it into my work schedule as well.  We know we are going to take one week during our eleventh anniversary which is in March, but not sure just yet when we are taking the other week.  The only problem is we are not sure where we are going to go during either week that we take vacation.  We have been to Gatlinburg numerous times (which is still not crossed off as an option...we may end up back there) and we enjoy it there and we went to Florida to Disney World (we even thought of going to Sarasota this time around) and we've been to Myrtle Beach.  But...we still are not certain where we are going on vacation or for our anniversary getaway...we definitely need to get some ideas going here and try to come up with a plan as our anniversary is just a few months away...our only question is where are we going??

Ideas anyone?!?  I would like to hear some of YOUR ideas...where in the USA do you like to visit and why?  Family vacations and anniversary getaway ideas are both welcomed because we will be doing both in the next few months as we have two weeks to use up...some time for our anniversary and other times for our family vacation!!

  5. Oh I just returned from my New Zealand trip this week & your post has already left me wanting another vacation! Jessica, I hope you received my email - I replied last week while still on vacation but my internet access was playing up (you'd left me a question about your dog's shedding). Thanks for sharing the link to your blog!

  7. Thanks for following my blog, I am now following you back!

We are actually trying to figure out when to take a trip down to Washington DC with my parents and cousins. I went there with my parents when I was little and loved it. This time we would want to stay in virginia because last tme we stayed a hotel right near all the tourist attractions and the hotel staff kept telling us to be home before dark and to double bolt our door at night! Im thinking during the Cherry Blossom festival would be a pretty time to go, its March 26-april 10th this year

  14. We always rent houses down off the coast of Florida. Destin, Captiva, Santa Rosa Island....they are all beautiful and you can find some reasonable places not far from the beach.

  16. Usually we vacay to places within 8 hours of driving distance since flying is so expensive. So the last several places we've been have been: St Louis, New Orleans, Nashville, Mobile, and Dauphin Island. We went to Orlando for our honeymoon and LOVED it. We're both big beach bums so anywhere with the beach is a plus! This year we are going on a CRUISE (and I am more than a little excited, hehe!). :)

  19. Hi there - thx for stopping by my blog!! I'm following you!

Our favorite summertime vacation is Hatteras Island, NC - part of the Outer Banks. But in the spring? I have to say I am dying to visit Washington DC. We've stayed at the Gaylord National in National City, MD which is right down the "street" from DC - but we were there last Thanksgiving ... it was too cold! for a DC visit! Whatever you do, I hope it is wonderful!!

  22. Thanks for following me @ Totally Temberton. I'm here to follow back. (And I followed your design blog too.)

We went to Disney, Universal, Titanic, and Holy Land in November. On the way there, we went to Savannah, GA. It's one of our fave stomping grounds from when we lived in Macon. BUT, this trip did not go well. We were robbed at Bonaventure Cemetery shortly after arriving there. The thief got my laptop, purse, camera, cell phone, MP3 player, etc. NOT a good way to start off a vacation. Ugh! It's OK now, but at the time it was devastating. So, we left promptly and didn't resume "vacationing" until the next day. We spent a little time in St. Augustine, but forewent the planned trolley tour because we didn't want to leave our van unattended seeing as it had a broken window.

After some loss of "fun time" to get the window fixed, we had a great week enjoying the sites of Orlando (as mentioned above). Next time around, we'd skip everything except Disney and maybe Universal. We'd also spend more time in St. Augustine and we'd go to the beach.

We've also been to Gatlinburg. We "vacationed" there several years ago while DH was at a conference. Also, I've gone 3 years in a row as a chaperone for a youth rally. We just got back last weekend. I always wish for more time there to enjoy the sites, but that's not what the weekend was about. BTW, our preacher was driving the van I was in and he was using his Smartphone MP3 as a "radio". He had the "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack, so I got to hear "Down to the River". Love that song! (Uh, but right now it is playing and some other song is overlapping it. Weird. LOL!)

I don't know where you live or how far you want to go, BUT we traveled from L.A. to VA back in '04 when DH retired form the Air Force (we lived in Oahu at the time, hence the long trip). We made the most of 3 weeks of travel and I've gotta say I loved, loved, loved the Four Corners area. There is SO MUCH to see. Think about it! :)

Also, if you love history, the state of Virginia has so many wonderful places to visit - Monticello and Michie Tavern (Charlottesville), Yorktown, Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc. Plus, if you go to the coast for Williamsburg et al, you can take in Busch Gardens and the beach. Ahhhh!

OK, I'll shut up now! :)
