Welcome to Mount Laundry!

20140120_133520_1_1

It's Monday!  This means I get to work my way through this mountain of laundry.  I've set aside Mondays and Thursdays for laundry days.  Most of the time, laundry isn't all there is to do though.  There's cleaning, cooking, taking the kids to school, working (yes, I know the previous mentioned is also work, but I mean the job I get a paycheck at as "working" as well), and the list goes on.  Sometimes this list can make my life feel a bit, well, chaotic, but read on!

Today as I work my way through Mount Laundry, instead of feeling stressed over the nearly maybe 6 to 8 baskets of laundry I have to do, I choose to feel blessed!  I feel blessed that by me having this laundry, it means that we have clothes to wear and on these cold Winter days we are not freezing.  It's also a blessing to know that I have a family here to share life with, even though they come with laundry!  Some of this laundry even signifies health.  How does laundry signify being healthy, you ask?  Well, the dirt stains on our little boy's jeans show he's healthy and well enough to play outdoors, mine and my husband's work clothes show that we are well enough to work, and our daughter's sometimes stained up from food shirts, show that our family is not starving.  So, you see, laundry is SO MUCH MORE than just laundry, it signifies life in some ways and it shows just a part of how blessed we really are!  So today, instead of looking at this laundry as a chore or a challenge (as I have did many, many times), I am going to look at the blessings that it signifies and the blessings that come with it!

Blessed...yes, I'm blessed on top of Mount Laundry

By the way, Mount Laundry, it reminds me of a Bible verse... Matthew 17:20 reads,

KJV: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

ESV: He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

I WANT faith like that!  I CRAVE faith like that.  My prayer is to have even as much faith as a mustard seed...it's evidently a big thing in God's eyes!

  1. Jessica,

Thanks for sharing. With 5 kids, my husband and I, my laundry can get overwhelming. In the past, I often dreaded it. Since my oldest daughter is no longer living with us, she is in medical school studying to be a doctor, I may not have as much laundry but I really wish I did. I miss her so much.
Thanks for sharing this great post!
    Blessings,
