The other day our family ate dinner out with some friends at a nearby, but well known, restaurant. The waiter was nice, our drinks were never empty, and before we left that evening he came to us and told us his name again and told us if we ever were to dine at the restaurant again he'd be happy to be our waiter.
As we were on our way home, my husband and I was discussing how impressed we were with his service. My husband decided to call management at the restaurant to leave a kind comment on the waiter's service. The manager seemed surprised to receive such a call. My husband was told how rare it was that the restaurant would receive a kind comment, rather than someone calling in just when they were unhappy with something.
This made me think of how easy it is for us to complain and grumble. Shouldn't it be just as easy to say something kind (especially when it's deserved)? Kindess does count, and is even perhaps more important, in a lot of situations, than what a complaint would be.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. -Proverbs 15:1 (KJV)
A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. -Proverbs 15:1 (ESV)
Kindness counts!
